Sabemos hoje que a inovação é crucial para o desenvolvimento e crescimento
económico, tanto num contexto mais macro, até um contexto mais micro, por exemplo, no dia
a dia das empresas. São muitos e variados os programas que têm sido desenvolvidos para
fomentar e criar uma cultura de inovação e transformação. Um dos maiores motores da
inovação, no que se compreende ao desenvolvimento de novos produtos, serviços e modelos
de negócio, são as start-ups. As start-ups têm um papel importante quer para a atração de
talento, como para o envolvimento de investidores que acabam por acreditar neste tipo de
projetos tecnológicos. Desde de 2008, com o lançamento do White Paper escrito por Satoshi
Nakamoto, tem-se assistido a uma grande mudança, essencialmente alavancada e sustentada
pela tecnologia Blockchain. O presente trabalho de investigação procura perceber qual o
impacto que esta tecnologia tem na inovação, se existe ou não a capacidade de acelerar todo
este processo e compreender como é que o próprio ecossistema de inovação tem sabido
adaptar-se e reinventar-se com a quantidade de novos serviços disponíveis, assim como as
implicações e limitações que existem.
A metodologia de análise baseia-se num estudo qualitativo. Depois de uma extensa
revisão de literatura, o leitor vai poder ter acesso a um caso de estudo aplicado à primeira startup
em Portugal (crypto-native) a recorrer a um método descentralizado de financiamento, uma
Inicial Coin Offering.

Innovation is crucial for economic development and growth, whether in a macro
context or in a micro context, for example, in day-to-day life in companies. There are many
and different programs that have been developed to foster and create a culture of innovation
and transformation. One of the biggest drivers of innovation, in what concerns the development
of new products, services and business models, are the start-ups. Start-ups play an important
role both in attracting talent and in involving investors who end up believing in this type of
technological projects. Since 2008, with the launch of the White Paper written by Satoshi
Nakamoto, a great change has been witnessed, essentially leveraged and sustained by the
Blockchain technology. This research paper seeks to understand what impact this technology
has on innovation, whether or not there is the potential to accelerate this whole process and
understand how the innovation ecosystem itself has been able to adapt and reinvent itself with
the number of new services available, as well as the implications and limitations that exist.
The analysis methodology is based on a qualitative study. After an extensive literature
review, the reader will have access to a case study applied to the first start-up in Portugal
(crypto-native) to use a decentralized funding method, an Initial Coin Offering.
