A indústria hoteleira é uma das indústrias mais poluentes e, a partir desta, é possível implementar ou adaptar várias práticas que contribuem significativamente para a preservação do ambiente. A importância da sustentabilidade nesta indústria é demonstrada pelos próprios hotéis e pelos seus clientes. A investigação apresentada consiste em conhecer as práticas sustentáveis implementadas e compreender o conhecimento sobre este tema da sustentabilidade na indústria hoteleira, a fim de contribuir para a prática e teoria. A metodologia de investigação qualitativa foi baseada em entrevistas realizadas aos hotéis e estes demonstraram que já estão muito preocupados com o ambiente e a tomar decisões mais sustentáveis quando se trata do seu negócio. A grande maioria deles já começa a implementar práticas sustentáveis porque reconhecem que se trata de uma grande mudança para o nosso planeta. Além disso, os próprios clientes já fazem as suas escolhas de acordo com a política de sustentabilidade de cada hotel e reconhecem o esforço feito por esta indústria. Porque representam um papel importante para o futuro, os hotéis sustentáveis devem influenciar outros que não estão a implementar práticas sustentáveis.

The hotel industry is one of the most polluting industries and, from this, it is possible to implement or adapt various practices that contribute greatly to environmental preservation. The importance of sustainability in this industry is demonstrated by the hotels themselves and their customers. The research presented consists of knowing the sustainability practices implemented and understanding the mindset about this subject of sustainability in the hotel industry, in order to contribute to practice and theory. The qualitative research methodology was based on interviews carried out to the hotels and they have shown that they are already very concerned about the environment and making more sustainable decisions when it comes to their business. The great majority of them are already starting to implement sustainability practices because they recognize that this is a big change for our planet. In addition, the customers themselves already make their choices according to the sustainability policy of each hotel and recognize the effort made by this industry. The sustainable hotels should influence others that are not implementing sustainability practices because they represent an important role for the future.
