A presente dissertação propõe analisar as dinâmicas e negociações no âmbito da justiça nas
decisões sobre crimes de “violência doméstica” em Portugal. Procura-se compreender as
formas de atender e entender as relações de violências entre homens e mulheres que marcam
o contexto contemporâneo, e os modos em que se administra justiça na Vara Penal.
Com este propósito, ao longo destas páginas, procuramos analisar os significados e
sentidos que em Portugal a violência doméstica adquire para magistrados e para diferentes
atores da sociedade civil portuguesa e a nível internacional. Por sua vez, conhecer as
concepções a respeito dos direitos das mulheres que guiam as práticas dos agentes judiciários,
em particular, como são percebidas as demandas de justiça das mulheres e de que modo esta
percepção define o atendimento que recebem e a produção de acórdãos. Em palavras de
Vianna e Lowenkron (2017), compreender como se “faz gênero” no Poder Judiciário.

This dissertation proposes to analyze the dynamics and negotiations in the field of justice in
decisions on crimes of "domestic violence" in Portugal. It seeks to understand the ways of
attending to and understanding the relations of violence between men and women that shape
the contemporary context, and the ways in which justice is administered in the Criminal
Court.
To this end, throughout these pages we aim to analyze the meanings that domestic
violence acquires in Portugal for magistrates and for different actors of Portuguese civil
society and at the international stage. In turn, we will explore the conceptions of women's
rights that guide the practices of judicial agents, in particular, how women's demands for
justice are perceived, and how this perception defines the treatment they receive and the
production of judgments. In the words of Vianna and Lowenkron (2017), understand how
"gender" is done in the Judiciary.
