Portugal é, segundo avaliações internacionais como o MIPEX, um dos países com melhores
políticas de integração de imigrantes. No entanto, o setor agrícola, cada vez mais dependente
de mão-de-obra estrangeira, conta com particularidades que dificultam a integração dos
trabalhadores agrícolas imigrantes. Neste estudo procuramos avaliar o nível de integração dos
trabalhadores agrícolas imigrantes na Região Oeste, umas das regiões com maior produção
agrícola.
Para tal foram realizados inquéritos a uma amostra de 70 trabalhadores e entrevistas a três
entidades chave, de modo a verificar se existe uma divergência entre o quadro legislativo e as
políticas de integração e a aplicação destas na realidade. Foi também dada especial atenção à
cobertura mediática do início do ano de 2021, que mostrou as condições precárias em que vivem
e trabalham estes migrantes, agravadas pela pandemia da Covid-19. Os resultados desta
pesquisa permitiram fundamentar a urgência de olhar para as especificidades deste setor e
desenhar políticas e estratégias que se adequem às necessidades dos trabalhadores imigrantes
no setor agrícola.

According to international rankings such as MIPEX, Portugal is one of the countries with the best
immigrant integration policies. However, the agricultural sector, increasingly dependent on the
foreign workforce, has features that hamper the integration of immigrant workers in agriculture.
In this study, we seek to access the integration level of the immigrant workers in agriculture in
the Western Region of Portugal, one of the regions with the highest agricultural production.
For this purpose, surveys were conducted on a sample of 70 workers and three key entities
were interviewed, to verify whether there is a divergence between the legislative framework
and integration policies and their application. Special attention was also given to media coverage
of the beginning of 2021, which showed the precarious conditions in which these migrants live
and work, aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of this research made it possible to
substantiate the urgency of looking at the specificities of this sector and designing policies and
strategies that suit the needs of immigrant workers in the agricultural sector.
