Visa o presente trabalho de dissertação de mestrado analisar se no setor fabricante de
cerâmica vermelha há a necessidade imperiosa de reestruturação de suas indústrias, para que
estas possam sobreviver e competir no vasto mercado, que a cada dia mais exigente está.
Primeiramente foi necessário analisar as mudanças primordiais que são determinantes para
esse processo de sobrevivência, o que detectou a necessidade imperiosa de redução nos custos
de fabricação, o aumento de produtividade e a melhoria da qualidade dos produtos. O estudo
toma por base verificar se o alto custo no processo de queima se relaciona com o forno
utilizado. Procurou-se empreender um estudo teórico-prático que alerte e oriente empresas do
setor cerâmico sobre a necessidade urgente de reestruturação, caso queiram sobreviver no
mercado. Apresentou-se ainda a viabilidade de se substituir os fornos existentes por fornos
túneis. Por fim mostra-se, pela presente pesquisa, que a indústria cerâmica que quiser
sobreviver terá de adequar-se à modernização proposta.

The present work of master`s degree dissertation envisages to analyze whether in
the producing sector of red ceramics there is the mandatory necessity of re-structuration of its
factories, so that these can survive and compete on the vast market, which is becoming more
and more demanding every day. Firstly, it was necessary to analyze the primordial changes
which are decisive to this process of survival, which detected the mandatory necessity of a
reduction in the cost of production, a raise in productivity, and an improvement in the quality
of the products. The basis of the study is to verify whether the high cost in the burning
process is related to the oven used. It was tried to do a theoretical and practical study which
alerts companies of the ceramics sector of the urgent necessity of re-structuration if they want
to survive on the market and advises them about it. Furthermore, the feasibility of substituting
the existing ovens by tunnel ovens became present. Finally, the present research shows that a
ceramic factory that wants to survive will have to make it self adequate to the modernization
proposed.
