A 1 de outubro de 2017, realizou-se, na Catalunha, um referendo pela independência da região, o primeiro com caráter vinculativo para o Governo regional. Apesar da ilegalidade reconhecida pelo Governo central espanhol, o mesmo avançou num clima de tensão, marcado por violentos protestos e uma repressão policial. Como em qualquer momento eleitoral, as televisões cobriram grande parte dos acontecimentos do dia da votação. Este estudo analisa a forma como ambas as televisões públicas - espanhola e catalã - olharam para a questão independentista, desde o seu início, acompanhando a evolução da sua linha editorial, mas também a forma como reportaram os relatos de violência policial sobre os manifestantes. Por fim, uma reflexão final sobre as consequências políticas que emergiram desta decisão política e quais os possíveis cenários para a Catalunha, independente ou não.

On October, 1st 2017, it was held, in Catalonia, a referendum for the independence of the region, the first with binding character for the regional government. Despite the illegality recognized by the central Spanish government, the referendum went forward on a tense atmosphere, marked by violent protests and police repression. Like in any electoral moment, televisions covered a large part of the ongoing events on the day of the vote. This study analyses how both public televisions - Spanish and Catalan - looked at the independentism question, since their beginning, following the evolution of their editorial line, but also to the way as they have reported on the police violence on those who were protesting. At last, a final reflection will be made on the political consequences that have emerged from this political decision and what are the possible scenarios for Catalonia, independent or not.
