A presente dissertação foi elaborada com o intuito de demonstrar o lugar da Galeria João Esteves de Oliveira na Arte Contemporânea Portuguesa. Sendo a única Galeria que promoveu durante as primeiras décadas do século XXI o trabalho sobre papel conferiu uma autonomia ao desenho quer no domínio comercial quer no âmbito da critica e da historiografia. Esta leitura tem início na apresentação do galerista, colecionador com uma carreira no mundo da banca que abre o seu espaço no Chiado, em 2002. A história da Galeria, os artistas, as exposições e as estratégias face às oscilações económicas também determinam o seu percurso.
Os artistas são apresentados de acordo com critérios diversificados, desde o económico, a faixa etária, a profissão, as mulheres e os grandes nomes da história de arte. As respostas aos inquéritos situam a Galeria no seu lugar percursor e incontornável no mercado da arte, designadamente no do desenho e do trabalho sobre papel.

This dissertation was written with the aim of highlighting the place of Galeria João Esteves de Oliveira in Portuguese Contemporary Art. As the only gallery that promoted work on paper during the first decades of the 21st century, it conferred an autonomy to drawing both in the commercial domain and in the field of criticism and historiography. This reading begins with the presentation of the gallerist, a collector with a career in banking, who opened his space in Chiado in 2002. The history of the gallery, the artists, the exhibitions and the strategies in the face of economic fluctuations also determine its path.
Artists are presented according to diverse criteria, from economic, age group, profession, women and the great names in art history. The responses to the surveys place the Gallery in its pioneering and unavoidable place in the art market, particularly in drawing and work on paper.
