Perante uma condição global (sobretudo a ambiental e económica) a arquitectura tem dado resposta no sentido de apontar uma vez mais que não é alheia às problemáticas que a
envolvem. O presente trabalho tem por objectivo indagar sobre práticas e reflexões que não
são indiferentes a estas questões globais, incidindo com especial atenção no acto de
materialização da arquitectura, na relação entre forma e “matéria” intrínseca à compreensão do
espaço arquitectónico e ao seu cumprimento energético, ambiental, social, económico e
noções de conforto ou até mesmo “luxo”. Perceber e compreender quais as ferramentas,
intuitos e dados com que estes arquitectos emergentes trabalham, relação com o produto final
e se formam ou são parte integrante de uma nova expressão arquitectónica.
A especial atenção à matéria prende-se com uma ideia de” escassez”, perante uma
consciência cada vez maior da finitude dos recursos quer naturais ou económicos, incidindo
sobre a manipulação de técnicas e materiais que revelam um papel determinante da
criatividade na capacidade de reinventar aquilo que está uniformizado ou encontrar respostas e
solução perante um novo olhar sobre determinada matéria.

In the presence of global conditions (particularly the environmental and the economical ones)
Architecture has given answer in order to prove once again that it is not unaware of the
problems that surround it.
The main target of this work is to inquire about practices and reflexions that are not indifferent to
these global questions and it turns its attention to several features such as the act of
architecture materialization, the connection between shape and “matter”, things extremely
important to understand the architectural space and its energetic, environmental, social and
economical performances, as well as notions of comfort or even “luxury”. It is also important to
understand which toils, aims and data are used by these emergent architects, the relation with
the final product and if they constitute or if they are integral part of a new architectural
expression.
The special attention to the matter is related to an idea of “shortage” as the conscience of the
end of natural or economical resources is becoming increasingly common, as well as the heed
provided for the techniques and materials manipulation reveals a special incidence of the
creativity in the capacity to reinvent standardized things or it finds answers and solutions before
a new look at a particular subject.
