Actualmente as numerosas teorias existentes sobre a mobilidade social, classes sociais e estratificação, permitem-nos partir para uma investigação sociológica nesta área, com uma bagagem teórica muito rica e diversificada, o que exige um grande esforço de condensação e selecção por parte dos investigadores, mas por outro lado permite ao investigador iniciar o seu estudo com um vasto conhecimento sobre estes fenómenos.
No nosso estudo, analisamos os fenómenos de mobilidade social nos trabalhadores de limpeza portugueses, tendo três principais linhas de orientação: analisar a sua situação profissional objectiva, as suas origens e recomposições sociais, e as suas apreciações e avaliações em relação a si mesmos, mas também em relação à sociedade portuguesa, não só a nível do passado e do presente, mas sobretudo a nível do futuro.
Os resultados mostram um conjunto de factores que contribuem para a reprodução social, mas é também visível o desenvolvimento de estratégias de mobilidade social ascendente.

Nowadays the many existing theories about the social mobility, social classes and stratification, allow us to start a sociological investigation in this area, with a rich and diverse theoretical background, which requires a great condensation and selection effort by the investigators side, in the other hand allows the researcher to start his study with a vast knowledge about this phenomena.
In our study we analyze the social mobility phenomena on the cleaning portuguese workers, having the three main guidelines: analyzing the objective professional situation, their origins and social recomposition, assessments and evaluation about themselves, also related with portuguese society, not only in the past and present but especially in a future level.
The results show a number of factors that contributes to the social reproduction and is also visible the development of the ascending social mobility strategies.
