A sociedade de risco definida por Beck e Giddens é pautada pela emergência de
riscos públicos, disruptivos e alarmantes. Alguns acontecimentos repetem narrativas
já existentes, configurando-se como novas instâncias de um problema social
conhecido; outros representam riscos sem precedentes para os quais a sociedade tem
dificuldade em encontrar respostas. A representação dos mediapara diferentes
ameaças contribui significativamente para a amplificação ou atenuação social do
debate sobre cada risco e consequentemente para a sua assimilação pela audiência.
Este projecto analisa dois acontecimentos recentes e discute o seu processo de
construção social nas notícias.

Defined by Beck and Giddens, the risk society is affected by the emergence of public,
disruptive and alarming risks. Some events repeat existing narratives and are
presented as settings of new instances of a known social problem; others represent
unprecedented risks against which society struggles to find answers. Media
representation of different threats contributes significantly to the social amplification
or attenuation of the debate on each risk and consequently to their assimilation by the
audience. This project examines two recent events and discusses the process of social
construction in the news.
