Sob o paradigma da sociedade contemporânea, cujas transformações estruturais
fazem emergir diferentes necessidades e competências aos seus actores sociais, também a
escola, reflexo e barómetro dessas alterações, catapulta a necessidade de reorganizar os seus
métodos de ensino, os seus próprios objectivos e práticas. Com o presente estudo, pretende
reflectir-se sobre o enquadramento das expressões artísticas na escola actual, à luz das novas
realidades escolares, e conhecer as percepções e significados dos professores de
teatro/expressão dramática, no que diz respeito à sua prática nas actividades dramáticas nos 2º e 3º ciclos do Ensino Básico.

Contemporary society’s paradigm implies structural transformations that provoke
an emerging set of needs and roles to be taken and expressed by its individuals.
As a learning space and a space for development, the school strongly reflects and expresses these transformations, incurring the urgent need to rethink and reorganise (re-evaluate?) its teaching methods, objectives and practice. The present thesis aims to reflect on the relevance of artistic expressions in today’s schools and to reveal the drama teachers’ understanding of the importance and significance of these artistic expressions for theatre and drama related activities at Junior High School.
