This text’s goal is to understand if the music industry changed with the appearance of new
technologies and their use. It describes some of the musical industry’s changes in structure and
consume, changes caused by the advent of MP3 technology and broad band. It discusses what peer-topeer
and downloads (legal and illegal) are and what people think about them. It focuses on the threats
that these present to the musical industry, namely the relationship between peer-to-peer and lower
album sales. It stresses that a change occurred with a new distribution model, which endorses more
economic power to the artists and a new financial status concert wise. The theoretical aspects end with
a discussion about how musicians should be present on the internet.
This work ends by analyzing Flor Caveira´s example, trying to prove the new opportunities
that were mentioned before. This label was given birth on the internet and used it both to make known
and distribute its work. Having achieved success in some more classic considered ways of distribution,
it has found a way to make a path of its own.
