minorar o custo ambiental do sector construtivo. Neste sentido, o desenvolvimento

The zeitgeist in the architecture feld, has been influenced very much by the
search of new alternatives, that look for the decrease in resource use and try to reduce
the environmental cost of the construction feld. The development of environmental
conscientious construction solutions, that have a lesser impact in the environment,
has become a very relevant feld, that should be studied and advanced, with the
objective of offering a bigger and better selection of solutions, in line with the present
way of thinking.
In hot climates, like the Portuguese climate, that have a great amount of
sun hours, the attention focuses, naturally, on shading solutions, that achieve solar
protection and allow for the natural ventilation of spaces, like the cobogó. in the
construction materials feld, this line of thinking favours the use of materials like high
performance microconcrete, which allow the reduction of prime mater use, without
affecting the material’s performance, making possible the design of very thin, prefabricated solutions, that use their geometry to achieve resistance.
Even though, cobogós and their ancestors - gelosias and muxarabis – have
a rich tradition with centuries of use in various parts of the globe, their popularity has
declined during the 2nd half of the twentieth century. Only recently, a new wave of
architects, influenced by these environmental questions, and the works of reference
of the Brazilian modern movement, started looking at them in new way, as a potential
solution, with its passive characteristics for ambient control and the beauty of the
patterns possible.
This work has the objective, of the developing a new design of cobogó,
that unites the long tradition and potential, has a passive element, with the high
performance microconcrete, to form a modular solution, resistant, and light that can
be ‘suspended’ on the building as second facade.
