The PhD Programme in Complexity Sciences has a three-year duration and is fully taught in English at Iscte and at the Sciences Faculty of the Lisbon University (FCUL). The first year of the programme is composed by 6 courses (Curricular Units) corresponding to 6 ECTS. The second and third years are devoted to developing the PhD thesis research, which corresponds to 120 ECTS.

Objectives
The PhD Programme in Complexity Sciences provides an integrated and holistic study process that allows its students to understand, via the application of modelling methodologies and computational simulation, the diverse and complex environments in which they are inserted. Students will also gain the skills to solve complex problems using information technologies, including systems for supporting organizational processes in complex environments.
The development of these skills and capabilities will allow students to integrate multidisciplinary knowledge in a scientific research project dedicated to the study of complex systems.
Students are intended to acquire the following set of capabilities:
- Research capabilities, including those for communicating and publishing their research;
- In-depth knowledge on their specific topic of research in Complexity Studies.
During in the different courses (Curricular Units) of the first year of the programme, students acquire increased knowledge on their specific research topic. Their research and communication capabilities are sharpened during the second and third years of the programme, during which the students develop their PhD thesis research.
The PhD programme also promotes and requires that students publish their research in scientific conferences and journals, in order to foster and assess the previously mentioned capabilities.
