NATIONAL CANDIDATE

A national candidate (or equivalent) is considered to be the one who:

  • has Portuguese nationality;
  • has the nationality of a member state of the European Union;
  • has another nationality, but is:
    • spouse1 of a Portuguese or EU citizen;
    • child under 21 years old2 of a Portuguese or EU citizen or his/her spouse1;
    • dependent mother or father of a Portuguese or EU citizen or his/her spouse1;
    • legal resident in Portugal for more than two years3, continuously on the 1st January of the year in which he/she intends to enter higher education;
    • beneficiary of the equal rights and duties status, on January 1st of the year in which they want to enter higher education;
    • applicant for entry to higher education through the special regimes.

A national or equivalent candidate competes for higher education through the National Competition for Access – National Call, managed entirely by the Directorate General for Higher Education (DGES). See here. That is, the application is not submitted or analyzed by Iscte, but by DGES.


1 Apart from the spouse, the unmarried partner is also eligible if accompanied by documentary evidence. | 2 Children over the age of 21 who remain dependent on the Portuguese/EU citizen or his/her spouse are also eligible. | 3 Children who live with the Portuguese/EU citizen or his/her spouse are also eligible; the time of residence for study does not count for this purpose.


ACCESS CONDITIONS

  • Have a high school diploma or legally equivalent qualification;
  • Have taken the entrance examinations required for the undergrarduate programme (licenciatura) and obtained in these examinations a classification equal to, or higher than, 9.5 values;
  • Have valid entrance examinations, which can be used in the year they are taken and:
    • in the following two years | in the case of exams held up to and including 2021.
    • in the following four years | in the case of exams held from 2022 onwards.
  • Have an application score equal to, or higher than, the minimum value set by the Iscte: 10.0 values.

INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATE

An international candidate is considered to be one who:

  • has no Portuguese nationality;
  • is not national of a member state of the European Union;
  • is not a family member of Portuguese or EU national;
  • has not resided legally in Portugal for more than two years uninterruptedly;
  • has not applied for entry into higher education through the special regimes;
  • does not enjoy equal rights and duties under an international treaty granted between the Portuguese State and that of which they are nationals.

An international candidate wishing to apply for an Iscte programme competes through a Special Competition, managed by Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon. In other words, the application is presented and analyzed by the Iscte, through the Candidature Analysis Commission of the undergraduate programme for which the candidate has applied.

More information regarding access to international students

In accordance with the international student fee regulations, the tuition fee for each year must be paid in full upon registration/enrollment.

Service fees are also to be considered for application and registration/enrollment in addition to the tuition fee.

APPLICATION FEE

Due for submitting an application for a course. Non-refundable amount.


RESERVATION FEE

Guarantees a place for admitted and conditionally admitted candidates and access to the registration and enrollment process. The fee must be paid within five (5) working days after the results are announced. The amount paid is deducted from the tuition fee and is non-refundable in case of withdrawal. 


ENROLLMENT FEE

In the amount of 30€, due for enrollment in each academic year.

SPECIAL CONTEST FOR OVER 23

The application to this competition follows a previous stage of registration in the M23 tests, which are mandatory at Iscte, typically in July. Candidates who meet all the following conditions can apply for these tests:

  • candidates must be 23 years old by December 31 of the year preceding the M23 exams;
  • candidates must not hold the access qualification for the intended programme of study (access qualification means being the holder of a secondary education programme or equivalent and having the national exams required as entrance exams);
  • candidates must not be covered by the status of international student.

SPECIAL CONTEST FOR DOUBLE CERTIFICATION COURSES

The Special Competition for Holders of Double Certification Courses of Secondary Level and Specialized Artistic Courses is intended for candidates who meet all the following conditions:

  • be the holder of an educational and training offer of double certification at secondary level, conferring level 4 of qualification of the National Qualifications Framework - see art. 13-A, DL no. 113/2014, of July 16, in its current wording; 
  • have taken and passed the specific test(s) required by the institution to apply to the course;
  • candidates must not be covered by the status of international student.

This special contest is intended for candidates who meet all the following conditions:

  • are holders of a bachelor's, graduate, master's or doctor's degree;
  • are not covered by the international student status.

CHANGE OF INSTITUTION/PROGRAMME PAIR 

This special contest is intended for candidates who meet all the following conditions:

  • been enrolled in another institution/programme and have not completed it;
  • have completed national secondary school and concluded the required admission exams for the undergraduate programme they are interested in - which may have been carried out in any school year;
  • have, in these exams, the minimum classification required by the higher education institution, in that year, under the general access regime;
  • are not covered by the international student status.
