The Master's in Urban Studies is the product of a collaboration between Iscte and NOVA FSCH It is supported by the Research Units of both institutions.
As the contemporary world urbanizes and globalizes, the populations of cities increase, their social and cultural fabrics diversify and new global economies of knowledge become their driving forces. Beyond providing a historical understanding of this process, this specialized, multi-disciplinary education in Urban Studies aims to stimulate academic research that takes into account the complexity of the modern day and enables intervention in the new challenges put forth by these dynamics.
The objectives of the MSc in Urban Studies are thus:
- to provide its students with the technical and methodological expertise to analyze the dynamics of urban and socioeconomic change and their associated forms of space;
- to develop students' abilities to understand the current complexity and sociocultural diversity of urban lifestyles;
- to encourage students' mastery over tools for planning and management, permitting them to increase the efficiency and innovativeness of urban policy.
This master's is meant for students interested in Urban Studies who have completed their undergraduate degrees, as well as specialists and managers whose professional work is related to invention in urban contexts and multidisciplinary teams.
