This work presents a study about Distance Education (EAD) with a intuition to check if the
growing expansion this modality of teaching registered in Brazil be considered as a threat to
the filling of vacancies for undergraduate courses of higher education institutions (HEIs)
privates in the State of Roraima, the northernmost unit of the federation Brazilian Amazon.
It’s fulfilled some review theoretical aspects considered important for research - as the
historical perspective of the education sector development in Brazil and Roraima (both attend
and distance), the socioeconomic status of the population object of study with emphasis on
isolation physical and technological developments in the region under consideration, and
especially the placement of students about their perspectives on higher education and their
willingness to substitute a graduate course face the same course offered through distance
education mode. The study is exploratory and descriptive and presents a survey of a sample of
10.16% of students graduating from high school in 2009. The result indicates that despite the
inclination of 45.5% of the interviewees in replace the curse of attend graduation for the same
course offered through distance education mode, the filling of vacancies offered by private
HEIs may not yet be considered threatened by this variable, given the lack of supply of
courses with the highest preference of the interviewees through this modality, as well as the
fact that 82.52% of them have declared that opt for enrolling in the course of your choice,
regardless of the HEIs (public or private) that offer it.
