A dissertação que se apresenta insere-se no ramo do Património e Projetos Culturais e tem como
foco o Complexo Memorial ao combatente português em Belém (Lisboa). O objetivo da
pesquisa é perceber até que ponto este espaço de memória é um lugar de reconciliação e qual a
relevância a ele dada pela sociedade portuguesa. Os principais resultados mostram que são
poucas as pessoas que revelam interesse neste espaço memorial, uns por falta de conhecimento
público (guias turísticos, livros ou meios de comunicação), outros por desinteresse na temática
abordada: a memória da Guerra Colonial. Por ser um assunto polémico e pouco debatido
entende-se relevante trazê-lo ao domínio público abrindo assim caminho a discussões mais
profundas e enriquecedoras.

This dissertation is included within the field of Heritage and Cultural Projects and focuses on
the Complexo Memorial ao Combatente Português in Belém (Lisbon). The purpose of this
research is to understand to what extent this memory space is a place of reconciliation and the
relevance given to it by Portuguese society. The main results show that there are few people
who show interest in the memorial space, some by lack of public knowledge (tour guides, books
or media), others by a disinterest in the selected theme: the memory of the Colonial War. Being
a controversial topic, and rarely debated it seemed to be relevant to bring it to the public
domain thus paving the way for deeper and enriching discussions.
