Programme Structure for 2025/2026

Objectives

This master's degree aims to provide interdisciplinary academic training in gender and sexual studies and offer high-quality professional skills to people who work or intend to work in these areas. The main objective is to train specialists in Gender Studies, sexuality, Equality and diversity, based on a wide and heterogeneous variety of theoretical perspectives in this field of studies, from a critical perspective, intersecting various forms of oppression and privilege, such as the processes of racialization in the grammars of coloniality, the multiple forms of sexuality and its social hierarchization, functional diversity of bodies and even the processes of social differentiation by class, age/generation and others.
Contemplating the dialogue between academia, public and private institutions, social movements, and experts, MEIGS brings together teaching and research work in Gender Studies and sexuality from several Social Sciences’ disciplines.

The Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Gender and Sexuality aims to train specialists in the area of contemporary problematizations of gender and sexuality at an advanced level. Among them, issues related to:

(i) gender, LGBTQIA+, trans and non-binary identities and expressions stand out;

(ii) family, conjugal relationships and parenting;

(iii) violence and work;

(iv) care, health and well-being;

(v) citizenship and human rights;

(vi) participation and power, with attention to public policies, legislation and intervention;

(vii) feminist movements and different forms of activism;

(viii) art, performance, cinema, theater and culture.

The interdisciplinary nature of the course guarantees plural training on gender and sexuality issues, in their complexity and multidimensionality, and the knowledge acquired will allow the development of new knowledge, the management of complex professional activities in the area of gender and sexuality.
