After this course the student should be able to:
OA1.Understand the theoretical and methodological implications of the concept of gender
OA2. Distinguish between sex and gender in terms of usage and meanings
OA3. Understand the processes of construction and materialization of gender and its theoretical and political foundations
OA4. Perceive gender as a co-constitutive and intersectional element of the matrices of discrimination and oppression
OA5. Participate in and reflect on research and intervention aimed at fighting inequalities based on gender, or intersecting with gender. OA6. Know the main public diversity and gender equality policies

CP5 - Gender and policies for equality and diversity
Knowledge assessment will be carried out throughout the semester. The assessment will be based on the grade of: 1 individual work (assessment criteria:exposition and argumentation skills 70%) and participation in debates in classes (assessment criteria: quality of participation and oral argumentation skills 30%).
Class attendance: minimum 2/3 of the classes
A minimum score of 9.5 is required at all assessment times.
Assessment by exam will correspond to the delivery of an individual essay (100%). The work statement will be made available on Moodle 1 week before the delivery date. To pass the final exam, the minimum grade is 9.5.
The criteria for evaluating the work and the exam will be: quality of presentation of arguments and conceptual and methodological proposals, critical reflexivity and quality of form.

A minimum score of 9.5 is required at all assessment times.
In the case of unsuccessful evaluation or failure in submitting their work to any of these assessment moments, students can be evaluated through the final exam.

Evaluation system: ongoing or exam. On-going: with 2 evaluation instruments - discussion of the readings in class (40%) and a final essay, 7 pp max (60%). It assumes, for the 1st instrument, a rate of attendance of at least 80%, oral participation in class, as well as its quality. The 2nd instrument will evaluate writing skills, the quality of bibliographical research, acquired knowledge, and skills of analysis and synthesis. Evaluation by exam: in the first turn, second turn or in the special turn.

The student who successfully completes this UC will be able to:
OA1: Design a research problem
OA2: Make a literature review, and use theories and case studies to formulate a research problem.
At the end of the UC, students should be able to:
1) identify and use different methodological tecnics and strategies, and their theoretical and ethical foundations. This will allow them to adequately define a research and/or intervention project
2) identify the main problems of the investigation and/or intervention process: defining the theme of analysis, its theoretical framework, operationalization of the research and preparation of the project;
3) develop a research and/or intervention project.

CP4. Methodological strategies: different contributions from Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology to the elaboration of an interdisciplinary project.
Continuous evaluation, comprising the following components:

Objectives
This master's degree aims to provide interdisciplinary academic training in gender and sexual studies and offer high-quality professional skills to people who work or intend to work in these areas. The main objective is to train specialists in Gender Studies, sexuality, Equality and diversity, based on a wide and heterogeneous variety of theoretical perspectives in this field of studies, from a critical perspective, intersecting various forms of oppression and privilege, such as the processes of racialization in the grammars of coloniality, the multiple forms of sexuality and its social hierarchization, functional diversity of bodies and even the processes of social differentiation by class, age/generation and others.
Contemplating the dialogue between academia, public and private institutions, social movements, and experts, MEIGS brings together teaching and research work in Gender Studies and sexuality from several Social Sciences’ disciplines.
The Master's Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Gender and Sexuality aims to train specialists in the area of contemporary problematizations of gender and sexuality at an advanced level. Among them, issues related to:
(i) gender, LGBTQIA+, trans and non-binary identities and expressions stand out;
(ii) family, conjugal relationships and parenting;
(iii) violence and work;
(iv) care, health and well-being;
(v) citizenship and human rights;
(vi) participation and power, with attention to public policies, legislation and intervention;
(vii) feminist movements and different forms of activism;
(viii) art, performance, cinema, theater and culture.
The interdisciplinary nature of the course guarantees plural training on gender and sexuality issues, in their complexity and multidimensionality, and the knowledge acquired will allow the development of new knowledge, the management of complex professional activities in the area of gender and sexuality.
