The Master in Integrated Decision Support Systems (MSIAD) was created in 2005 to train professional experts in Business Intelligence, manage, specify, implement, and successfully use systems that support the decision processes, properly integrated in the management of organizational information.

MSIAD is a differentiated course focused on an integrated vision of business inteligence (BI) systems.

Since its creation and until today, it remains the only offer at the national level that integrates the various valences of the decision support area.

MSIAD aims to train professionals with key competencies:

  • Data Warehouse systems or analytical information systems;
  • Data Mining or knowledge extraction in the areas of data science;
  • Strategic BI (with application of balanced scorecard approaches and ABC/ABM - Activity-based costing/Activity-based management);
  • Data Warehouse systems and analytical information systems;
  • Data Visualization, Big Data, Python-based Data Science;
  • Text Mining and Computer Vision for decision support systems;
  • Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Neural Networks and Machine Learning;
  • Providing students with strategic BI skills.

The area of BI is one of the areas of great employability and currently has above average wages. There is great demand from companies and a very limited supply of qualified professionals. In the coming years, the trained specialists will play an increasingly intervening and value-generating role in management and innovation processes in all fields of industry, services and society in general.

Throughout the school part, the connection to companies is promoted through the use of real cases in education. There is the possibility of granting Master's grants for the implementation of applied projects associated with real cases in international and national research projects as well as sponsorship of companies to solve real problems and link to the open data laboratory of the Lisbon City Hall and the data of the IoT laboratory of Iscte.

The teaching component foresees the possibility of specialization in one of the following tematic areas: Interactive Application and Games; Computer Data Science; Digital Transformation; Internet of Things; and Intelligent Systems. The students who make a set of four options of a given thematic area and a free option have a mention to the specific area in their Diploma Supplement.

In the 2nd year, and as a complement to the dissertation preparation work, the students attend, in the 1st semester, to one compulsory course unit in Text Mining and a set of two electives. Students who succeed in all the curricular units of the first year are awarded with the Diploma of Post-Graduate Studies of 2nd cycle in Integrated Decision Support Systems.

Of the dissertations in 2020, four were linked to European H2020 projects. Six prototypes were developed and seven articles were published in international journals and conferences. A list of papers and theses can be found at drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Fe3LnMfpwn1Quh-O54vjdmVNs4Ife7DI
