Gender relations and sexuality are key issues in contemporary societies, associated with social inequalities, multiple forms of discrimination and violence. Additionally, gender and sexuality are crucial forms of identification and subjectivity in the formation of identities.

The Postgraduate course in Interdisciplinary Gender and Sexuality Studies (PGEIGS) offers interdisciplinary academic training and professional skills to people who work, or intend to work, at an advanced level in the following areas: (i) gender identities and expressions, LGBTQIA+, trans and non-binary; (ii) family, conjugalities and parenting; (iii) violence and work; (iv) care, health and well-being; (v) citizenship and human rights; (vi) participation and power, with a focus on public policies, legislation and intervention; (vii) feminist movements and different forms of activism; (viii) art, performance, film, theatre and culture.

The course offers approaches and analyses on gender and sexuality from an intersectional and interdisciplinary perspective. The teaching staff is constituted by lecturers and researchers from the scientific fields of Anthropology, Sociology and Psychology, experts in gender studies, intersectional feminist theory and methods; LGBTQIA+ politics and activism; queer and trans perspectives; masculinities; gender-based activism and social movements; sexuality and health; violence and human rights.

The main objective of PGEIGS is to train specialists in gender, sexuality, equality and diversity studies, based on a critical approach of wide variety of theoretical perspectives,, in a path that intersects various matrices of oppression and privilege, such as the processes of racialisation in the grammars of coloniality, the multiple forms of sexuality and their social hierarchisation, the functional diversity of bodies, and the processes of social differentiation by class, age/generation and others.
