LO1. To properly apply the acquired instruments and methodology;

LO3. To acquire skills to elaborate the research project, namely in what refers to:
LO3.1:Definition and delimitation of a research field, formulation and justification of a hypothesis, planning methods and techniques.
LO3.2:Organization of a thesis plan: central question, the object and its context, objective definition. Definition of a provisory structure;
LO3.3:Completing the thesis project: resources, tools and research methods

Research Methods in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories shall specifically deal, during class time, with:
P1 - Typifying research methodologies, rules and procedures;
P2 - Presentation of a set thematic sessions which will exemplify approaches focusing on the disciplinary fields related to metropolitan dynamics.

Students will be evaluated on a continuous evaluation process:
- Report requested by the faculty member - 80%.
- Attendance and participation in debates - 20%.
There is no possibility of final evaluation.

LG1. Acquire the capacity for autonomous reflection, the ability to identify research objects, formulate research questions and hypotheses; defining starting problems and questions, to assess their relevance;
LG2. Develop and apply appropriate methodologies to carry out the project;
LG3. Develop a broad-spectrum discourse on metropolitan dynamics;
LG4. Acquire transversal knowledge essential to the qualification of the design exercise, understood as research practice;
LG5. Ability to plan scientific research work; ability to write an academic text; and prepare a research project.

Research project in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories aims at conceptual development applied to a case study related to the metropolitan phenomenon:
CP1. Architectural Culture
CP2. Urban Policies
CP3. Art and Creativity
CP4. Ethical issues in research at ATMC CP5. Communication of scientific works.

Students will be assessed on an assessment basis throughout the semester.
The final grade results from the weighting: 80% preparation of the thesis pre-project + 20% intervention in the classroom.
Students are expected to produce original works, based on responsible authorship criteria, citing and referring appropriately to the authors and works they mobilize. The works will be evaluated for their authorial and bibliographic rigor, as well as
in light of the code of ethical conduct in research
The assessment of this UC does not include a final written exam.

OA1. Choose and reflect on the topic of the thesis in an informed way;
OA2. identify arguments that justify carrying out the study;
OA3. Expand research into the phenomenon of production of metropolitan territories in their cultural and technological framework from a holistic interdisciplinary perspective;
OA4. Contribute through research, broad and comprehensive discussion, to innovation in the scientific field of architecture.

The Research Seminar on Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories aims to present and discuss themes, research topics in the areas of conceptual development of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Art and territorial development applied to the metropolitan phenomenon. The specific contexts of this curricular unit are indicative of the research orientation to be defined by the students:
CP1. Mutations and flows;
CP2. Digital Territories;
CP3. Program and ideology;
CP4. Development and sustainability;
CP5. Hybridities and transiences;
CP6. Limits and discontinuities.

Assessment throughout the semester, with the student having to present attendance of at least 80%.
The assessment instruments correspond to a specific report requested by the teacher, which will have a weighting of 80%.
Attendance and participation in debates will be weighted at 20%.

1. To contribute towards the improvement of the original research in the domain of contemporary metropolitan territories;
2. To motivate for a progressive disciplinary autonomy in the two research branches (theoretical and project-oriented);
3. To improve the research methodologies, adjusting them to the diverse research itineraries;
4. To promote debate and discussion sessions, so as to regularly test the feasibility and the validity of the research in progress;
5. To promote the participation in national and international congresses, as a means to divulge the partial research results;
6. To spread the debate about Metropolitan Contemporary Territories to the external community;
7. To establish international research networks;
8. To contribute for the national and international information on this field.

This Curricular Unit's programmatic contents will, mostly, be defined by doctoral students, through specific research undergone in the scope of the PhD Thesis in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories.
Throughout the three years which this curricular unit will take place, tutorial guidance for the elaboration of an original PhD Thesis in the field of Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories, in the theoretical and project oriented dual aspect. A conference cycle will take place.

Evaluation will take place by the end of the study cycle, in a public act for the obtainance of the doctorate degree.
