Iscte Knowledge and Innovation with European funding

The project was recently approved by Portugal’s 2020 management bodies, approving a co-participation of 40% from European funding sources in this global investment.

With the support of the Municipality of Lisbon, conditions are set for launching the first public competition for creating works for IMT.

The Iscte Innovation and Knowledge project consists of creating a Center for Technology Evaluation and Transfer which will bring together the various research centres, groups, technological resources, labs and partnerships at Iscte in a single renovated, requalified and modernized building.

The requalification of the IMT building and its incorporation into the Iscte campus will enable the optimization of its current conditions on multiple levels.

Firstly, it will substantially improve the conditions for collaborative and interdisciplinary work, an increasingly requisite factor in research and evaluation activities.

Secondly, creating a centre for innovation and the evaluation of knowledge – Iscte, Knowledge and Innovation - with a sprawling façade on Avenida das Forças Armadas will increase Iscte’s visibility and improve the school’s relationship with the city and its different institutions.

Thirdly, the requalification will exemplify Iscte’s perspectives on sustainability, the recovery of architectural heritage and the involvement of teaching staff, researchers and students in project development.

This project will being coordinated by a team made up of two Iscte professors (Bernardo Pizarro Miranda and Pedro Luz Pinto) and one alumnus of Iscte MIA (Susana Rego). This team will also collaborate with the students of Architecture at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon.
