The award is given to organisations that, after an internal analysis of the compliance with the 40 principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, define and implement actions to improve their practices.

Over 50 Portuguese organisations have subscribed to the Charter & Code principles, including several higher education institutions, research institutes, and laboratories. Only eleven hold the certification, with Iscte being the only University.

"This distinction is highly significant for a University like Iscte, which views Higher Education as an essential pillar of national scientific activity," says Jorge Costa, Vice-Rector for Research and Technological Modernisation.

Iscte's application for the HR Excellence in Research award stemmed from a commitment made under the InCITIES project and aligns with the core principles of the PIONEER Alliance, a consortium of ten European Universities.

The Human Resources Excellence in Research Award distinguishes institutions that promote good practices in managing human resources in research, bringing numerous benefits. In addition to fostering innovation and institutional change, it places researchers at the heart of the process, facilitates integration into international networks, and enhances the institution’s national and international visibility, strengthening its competitiveness and recognition in the research landscape.

Iscte is committed to continuing to promote excellence in its human resources practices, aligning with the highest international standards and ensuring a working environment that values innovation and the continuous development of its researchers.
