Este trabalho tem como finalidade principal analisar a situação do Instituto de Acção Social das Forças Armadas (IASFA) numa perspectiva financeira e reflectir sobre a sua missão no contexto da reestruturação das Forças Armadas. Trata-se de um trabalho de investigação aplicada baseado em grande parte, no estágio que decorreu neste estabelecimento. Para a sua elaboração utilizou-se a combinação de várias metodologias, umas de forma mais aprofundada que outras, mas todas com uma contribuição significativa para a conclusão do trabalho. Recorreu-se à observação directa, à pesquisa bibliográfica e também a algumas entrevistas consideradas importantes para se alcançar uma conclusão objectiva sobre o problema colocado. De todas as pesquisas efectuadas foi possível saber o que é e como se desenvolveu a acção social ao longo dos anos. Foi possível efectuar uma breve caracterização do IASFA, através da análise das contas e do plano de actividades, que contribuiu para a resolução da questão fulcral do trabalho e verificar as principais alterações efectuadas neste instituto aquando das reestruturações nas Forças Armadas. Após essas pesquisas e análises foi possível chegar-se ao fim da elaboração deste trabalho com uma conclusão específica e fundamentada sobre a questão fulcral do trabalho que se centrou na análise da situação actual do IASFA face à reestruturação recente e perspectivas futuras.

The main aim of this paper is to analyze the status of the Portuguese Armed Forces’ Social Welfare Institute (Instituto de Acção Social das Forças Armadas (IASFA)) from a financial perspective, and reflect on its mission in the context of the restructuring of the Armed Forces. This is an applied research work largely based in the internship which took place in this institution. For the accomplishment of this paper, a combination of several methodologies was used, some more in-depth then others, but all with a significant contribution for the completion of the paper. Direct observation, literature review, and some interviews deemed important were also used in order to reach an objective conclusion on the problem raised. From all the research conducted, it was possible to know what social welfare is, and how it developed throughout the years. It was possible to make a brief characterization of the IASFA, through the analysis of the accounts and plan of activities, which contributed for the resolution of the core issue of the paper and see the main changes made in this institute on the occasion of the restructuring of the Armed Forces. After these researches and analysis it was possible to come to the end of this work with a specific and founded conclusion on the core issue, which focused in the analysis of the status of the IASFA in light of its recent restructuring and future perspectives.
