A presente dissertação procura analisar e debater o momento actual do jornalismo on-line na imprensa escrita em Portugal, após dezassete anos de existência. Numa altura em que a Internet é indispensável para o trabalho dos media torna-se essencial investigar as consequências da introdução deste novo dispositivo. É nesta perspectiva que surge este estudo, onde o ponto de partida remete para uma inquietação fundamental: se o jornalismo on-line realmente mudou a forma de noticiar em Portugal. O método escolhido para este trabalho foi o estudo de caso, para abordar esta temática com uma maior profundidade. Para isso acontecer, tive a necessidade de basear-me tanto em autores portugueses como em estrangeiros. Na primeira parte deste trabalho, irei proceder a uma análise das características específicas do on-line e à sua evolução ao longo dos anos. A actualização permanente, a ética e a interactividade são temáticas que vou desenvolver no segundo capítulo, para entender se estes factores contribuem ou não para condicionar a construção das notícias. No capítulo seguinte, pretendo compreender se este sector é ou vai ser prejudicado com a redução de custos, fruto da profunda crise económica em que o país vive. Na última parte desta dissertação, irei procurar perceber qual vai ser o futuro do on-line e de que forma vai alterar o espectro noticioso nacional. A Internet abriu novos caminhos para o jornalismo dando-lhe novas oportunidades, assim o objectivo desta tese é acrescentar novos dados que possam ajudar a compreender melhor esta temática e contribuir para futuras pesquisas na área.

This essay seeks to analyze and discuss the current moment of on-line journalism on printed media in Portugal, after seventeen years of existence. At a time that the Internet is indispensable for the working of the media it becomes essential to investigate the effects of the introduction of this new device. It is on this perspective that this study where the starting point refers to a fundamental restlessness: if online journalism really changed the way to report in Portugal. The method chosen for this work was the case study to address this issue with a greater depth. For this to happen, I had the need to base my essay, as much in portuguese authors as in foreign authors. In the first part of this paper, I will conduct an analysis of specific characteristics of the on-line and its evolution over the years. The permanent update, ethics and interactivity are themes that will be develop in the second chapter, to understand if these factors contribute or not to conditioning the construction of news. In the next chapter, I want to understand if this sector is or will be harmed by the reduction in costs as a result of the deep economic crisis that the country is experiencing. In the last part of this essay, I will try to realize what will be the future of the on-line and how it will change the national news spectrum. The Internet has opened new avenues for journalism giving new opportunities, so the aim of this thesis is to add new data which may help a better understanding of this issue and contribute to future research in the area.
