The preferred participants in the master's in Social Work are students who have concluded the 1st cycle of education (undergraduate), as well as professionals, technicians and decision-makers operating in the scope of social work, either at the levels of central, regional and local administration or in the third sector, in private organisations of social solidarity or non-governmental organisations.


Students who obtain approval in all the 60 credit units (ECTS) of this program's first year will be attributed the Second Cycle Postgraduate Diploma in Social Work.

Objectives

The objectives of the Master's in Social Work are for students:

• To deepen Social Work knowledge;

• To develop scientific and theoretical-methodological skills, so as to promote the pursuit of advanced studies in Social Work;

• To apply knowledge of Social Work in the understanding of the social problems and policies of the professional intervention and organisational/institutional contexts;

• To gain understanding of the methodologies of intervention with individuals, families, groups and communities;


• To provide the development of critical, analytical and reflective thinking on intervention, within the framework of research and knowledge production in Social Work.

Thesis / Final work

This curriculum culminates in the presentation of a dissertation or project oriented towards research and the enhancement of professional practices in the scope of Social Service.
