The Master's in Education and Society is a unique course in Portugal. It trains education specialists able to develop answers to current problems in education with a strategic vision that integrates research and intervention practice. The programme provides expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating activities of an educational character.

The target population of this Master's course includes teachers, educators, experts in central and regional education organizations and bachelors-holders who work (or intend to work) professionally in educational roles in public and private organizations.

The course material combines Sociology with Anthropology, Public Policy and Methods of Social Research. The study plan includes compulsory and elective classes, and allows students to choose to complete a dissertation or a final project in the second year. Their research may connect with the work done at CIES-Iscte; in addition, some of their works will be published in book form. Students may also opt to participate in a traineeship in a large variety of institutions.

Those in possession of a bachelor's received before the implementation of the Bolonha process can request accreditation of this prior education.

Completing the first year of this course confers on the student a Post-Graduate in Education and Society.

Students may also receive awards of academic excellence.

Director(s) message

Our collective future depends to a large extent on education. We are a highly qualified team of teachers with a strong link to research and intervention. The students have very diverse formative and professional origins and reveal a great mobilization to make a difference.

The curricular internship ensures the contact with the potential labour market. The International Cycle of Conferences integrates specialists with research and/or field work in order to ensure contact with the different educational modalities (school and non-school) present in contemporary societies.
