Jürg Steiner is professor emeritus of political science at both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Bern. For some time he held the Swiss Chair at the European University Institute in Florence. His main research interest is in the interplay between philosophical and empirical aspects of the deliberative model of democracy. His books on deliberation, all with Cambridge University Press, are Deliberative Politics in Action, 2005 (with André Bächtiger, Markus Spörndli, and Marco R. Steenbergen), The Foundations of Deliberative Democracy, 2012 (sole author), Deliberation across Deeply Divided Societies (with Maria Clara Jaramillo, Rousiley C. M. Maia, and Simona Mameli).
