The Scientific Council is the central coordinating body of the scientific activities of the Iscte.

The Scientific Council is composed of twenty-five members:

Seventeen of whom are elected in accordance with the Statutes and electoral regulations of the Scientific Council of Iscte, from among career teachers and researchers; of the remaining full-time teachers and researchers with a contract of no less than one year and who hold a doctoral degree;

Eight representatives from the investigation;ão, designated by them under the terms of the statutes and in the electoral regulations of the Scientific Council;fico of Iscte.

The Scientific Council;fico works in plenary;rio and in a permanent committee;o that meets;nem with the frequency regulated in its regiment.

The President of the Scientific Council is elected from among its members in plenary, by a simple majority in accordance with its electoral regulations. The president is assisted by a Vice-president, who is freely chosen by him, from among the members of the plenary.

The permanent Committee is composed of the president, Vice-president and three members elected under the terms of the Scientific Council's electoral regulations, from among the members of the plenário.

The Scientific Council can delegate to the Scientific Committees of the decentralized units the competencies necessary for the proper functioning of Iscte.
