Applications open for two PhD positions in the field of Multicore Fiber

The MATCH project, funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme, is a pan-European doctoral training network that is pushing the boundaries of multicore fibre (MCF) technology.

The main goal of this project is to make future optical communication networks more powerful, cost-effective, and energy-efficient. Within this framework, the development of high-performance multicore fibres is being driven forward, while innovative optical components and subsystems are being designed and implemented.

Until February 24, applications are open for two PhD scholarships aimed at graduates with a Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or any other related fields.

PhD offers:

• Project: MFCFs for high core-count bidirectional transmission in short-reach links
  • Supervisors: João Rebola and Adolfo Cartaxo (researchers at IT-Iscte and lecturers at the School of Technology and Architecture)
• Project: Design of wavelength space division multiplexing MCF-based passive optical networks
  • Supervisors: Tiago Alves (researcher at IT-Iscte and lecturer at the School of Technology and Architecture) and Darko Zibar (researcher at the Centre of Excellence for Silicon Photonics for Optical Communications and lecturer at the Technical University of Denmark)

The research work is scheduled to begin by September 2025.
