O presente estudo tem como intuito principal responder à seguinte questão de investigação: “Quais os fatores que limitam a adoção de tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação pela população sénior?”. Foram definidos os objetivos: estudar a situação atual do uso das TIC (Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação) pela população sénior portuguesa, perceber a relação dos idosos com as TIC, compreender as dificuldades que a população sénior portuguesa sente ao usar as TIC, analisar as políticas e iniciativas que têm sido desenvolvidas para tentar combater a exclusão digital na população sénior e apresentar quais das iniciativas desenvolvidas tiveram mais impacto para diminuir a exclusão digital sentida por esta população. Assim, foi realizado um questionário a 102 pessoas com idades compreendidas entre os 65 anos e os 91 anos na região de Lisboa. O principal critério a ter em conta era a idade (igual ou superior a 65 anos). Trata-se de uma amostra por conveniência, visto que o questionário não foi aplicado em nenhum local específico. Ao longo deste estudo foi possível perceber que Portugal é um país com um elevado índice de envelhecimento. Desta forma, facilmente percebemos que a população sénior portuguesa tem inúmeras dificuldades em lidar com a emergência de um novo paradigma tecnológico, por ter tido um contacto tardio com as mesmas. No entanto, sabemos que a idade não é o único fator que limita a adoção de tecnologia, como é possível verificar através do modelo TAM e foi comprovado pelo questionário e estudo que foi realizado nesta investigação. Neste sentido, tornou-se clara a importância de perceber a relação da população sénior e as TIC e também analisar quais das políticas e iniciativas desenvolvidas para combater a falta de literacia digital na população sénior portuguesa têm mais impacto para diminuir as dificuldades sentidas pela população sénior.

The present study aims to answer the following research question: “What are the factors that limit the adoption of Information and Communication technologies by the senior population?”. The objectives were defined: study the current situation of the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) by the Portuguese senior population, understand the relationship of the elderly with ICT, understand the difficulties that the Portuguese senior population feels when using ICT, analyze the policies and initiatives that have been developed to try to combat the digital divide in the senior population and to present which of the initiatives developed have had the most impact in reducing the digital divide felt by this population. A questionnaire was conducted for 102 people aged 65 to 91 in the Lisbon region. The main criterion to be considered was age (65 years and over). This is a convenience sample, as the questionnaire was not applied in any specific location. Throughout this study, it was possible to realize that Portugal is a country with a high rate of aging. Thus, we easily realize that the Portuguese senior population has many difficulties in dealing with the emergence of a new technological paradigm, having had a late contact with them. However, we know that age is not the only factor limiting the adoption of technology, as it is possible to verify through the TAM model and was confirmed by the questionnaire and study that was conducted in this investigation. It became clear the importance of understanding the relationship of the senior population and ICT and also analyzing which of the policies and initiatives developed to combat the lack of digital literacy in the Portuguese senior population have the most impact in reducing the difficulties experienced by the senior population.
