As infraestruturas de mobilidade são elementos imprescindíveis nas cidades, que garantem a ligação do Homem com o lugar e permitem explorá-lo. São os pilares da humanização, construções de grande escala que artificializam as paisagens e alteram permanentemente as dinâmicas do território. Surge a perceção dos elementos infraestruturais que, por um lado, a nível de escala urbana, permitem consolidar e unificar o território, e por outro, a uma escala mais aproximada, são manifestamente a causa da desagregação do território. Poderá o desenho arquitetónico influenciar as bases da criação destes elementos, elevando-os para além do seu carácter pragmático? Parte-se da conceção da infraestrutura não apenas pelo seu carácter funcional, mas também pelo seu potencial como elemento urbano de reordenação da cidade, um pretexto para reabilitar o tecido urbano, desfazer barreiras e gerar continuidades entre a cidade e o meio natural que a envolve. O projeto do terminal intermodal da Costa da Caparica parte da extensão do metro de superfície de Almada até à Costa da Caparica e da relocalização do atual terminal rodoviário para uma zona mais central da cidade. Na conceção do trabalho a infraestrutura é usada como ferramenta consolidadora do território, uma peça de articulação da cidade com o meio natural envolvente. Nesta linha de pensamento, surge uma ideia da infraestrutura como elemento híbrido, que funde a paisagem com a construção.

Mobility infrastructures are essential elements of the city, they connect mankind with the earth and allow for its exploration. They are the pillars of humanization, large-scale constructions that artificialize landscapes and alter the dynamics of the territory permanently. The perception of infrastructural elements emerges on the one hand, at a large urban scale, as elements that allow for the consolidation and unification of the territory and, on the other hand, at a smaller scale, as the culprits for the disaggregation of the territory. Could architectural design influence the foundations for creating these elements, elevating them beyond their pragmatic character? We start off from an idea of infrastructure, not only for its functional nature, but also for its potential as an urban element of consolidation and organization of the city, a pretext to rehabilitate the urban fabric, dissolve barriers and generate continuity between the city and the natural environment that surrounds it. The project for the terminal in Costa da Caparica starts with the extension of the surface metro from Almada to Costa da Caparica and the relocation of the current bus terminal to a more central area of the city. In the design of the work, the infrastructure is used as a consolidating tool for the territory, a piece of articulation between the city and the surrounding natural environment. In this line of thought, there is an idea of infrastructure as a hybrid element, which merges the landscape with the construction.
