"Uma casa, uma obra de arte", a célebre frase da incontornável figura da arquitetura modernista Japonesa, Kazuo Shinohara, serviu como ponto de partida para um ensaio que abordou a habitação unifamiliar em Portugal entre a década 60 e os anos 2000. Durante uma primeira fase do trabalho de investigação conduzido, foi levado a cabo um levantamento de casas compreendidas entre a década de 60 e os anos 2000 no contexto português e, semanalmente, as habitações identificadas foram analisadas e redesenhadas, antes de serem apresentadas e discutidas coletivamente em contexto de aula. Após a primeira fase do projeto, e utilizando a mesma como estrutura basilar, foi decidido afunilar o estudo tendo como foco a cobertura das habitações, sub-tema aprofundado e desenvolvido com particular atenção durante a parte final do estudo que se materializou na construção de uma habitação. Durante o projecto de dissertação, foi possível compreender o papel da habitação unifamiliar na arquitetura portuguesa, um tema menos explorado, incidindo ainda sobre os modos de vida contemporâneos e os caminhos a traçar para acompanhar a constante evolução dos mesmos.

"A house is a work of art", the famous saying by one of the main figures among Japanese modernist architecture, Kazuo Shinohara, served as the starting point for an essay that addressed single-family housing in Portugal between the 1960s and the 2000s. During the first phase of the research work carried out, a survey comprising the houses between the 60s and the 2000s in the Portuguese context was conducted. Weekly, the identified dwellings were analyzed and redesigned, before being presented and discussed. collectively in the classroom context. After the first phase of the project, and using the same as a basic structure, it was decided to narrow down the study focusing on the roof of the dwellings, a sub-topic that was deepened and developed with particular attention during the final part of the study that materialized in the final construction of a single housing structure. During the dissertation project, it was possible to understand the role of single-family housing in Portuguese architecture, a less explored theme, focusing on the contemporary ways of life and the paths to be followed by modern architecture in order to accompany their constant evolution.
