Nos últimos anos o crescimento do populismo da direita radical na Europa tem sido muito abordado e discutido por vários especialistas e pelos meios de comunicação. Houve um tempo em que Portugal parecia encontrar-se imune a esta onda populista; contudo, o aparecimento do Chega transformou completamente o cenário político atual. É um dos partidos políticos que têm tido mais destaque desproporcional nos media portugueses sobretudo nos canais televisivos. Nas eleições legislativas antecipadas de 10 de março 2024, o Chega alcançou um crescimento significativo face às eleições de 2022. Nesta dissertação de mestrado, pretendo explorar detalhadamente o papel do jornalismo televisivo no crescimento do populismo da direita radical. Nesse sentido, para compreender melhor a relação entre populismo e os media, foi realizada uma análise da cobertura mediática do canal televisivo SIC dos noticiários do “Jornal da Noite” durante o período de campanha das Eleições Legislativas antecipadas que ocorreram a 10 de março de 2024. O foco do trabalho incidiu no modo como os jornalistas e comentadores da SIC apresentaram, discutiram e escrutinaram os temas e discursos políticos abordados pelo Chega nos noticiários do "Jornal da Noite".

In last years, the growth of radical right-wing populism in Europe has been widely addressed and discussed by various experts and the media. There was a time when Portugal seemed to be immune to this populist wave, however the emergence of the Chega completely transformed the current political scenario. Chega is one of the political parties that has had the most disproportionate prominence in the Portuguese media, especially on television channels. In the early legislative elections of March 10, 2024, the party achieved significant growth compared to the 2022 elections. In this master's thesis, I intend to explore in detail the role of television journalism in the growth of radical right-wing populism. In this sense, to better understand the relationship between populism and the media, an analysis was carried out of the media coverage of the SIC television channel during the period of the early Legislative Elections campaign that took place on March 10, 2024. The focus of the work focused on the way in which SIC journalists and commentators presented, discussed and scrutinized the political themes and speeches covered by Chega in the "Jornal da Noite" news.
