Num mundo cada vez mais competitivo é fundamental que qualquer projeto de investimento seja bem-sucedido, como é o caso da implementação de um Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), pelo que importa determinar os fatores que o influenciam para, atuando sobre eles, os minimizar ou potenciar, consoante o caso. Partindo da fundamentação teórica para conceptualizar os sistemas ERP e caracterizar o processo de implementação, identificando os problemas e obstáculos, designados por fatores críticos de insucesso (FCI) e paralelamente assinalando os fatores críticos de sucesso (FCS), procurou-se, com base numa pesquisa de natureza qualitativa e exploratória, com recurso ao estudo de um caso de implementação de ERP numa empresa do setor da aviação comercial, analisar a relevância e a verificação dessas duas vertentes. A maioria dos resultados obtidos corroboram a fundamentação teórica, outros mais de pormenor distanciam-se desse referencial teórico. Assim, identificaram-se como criticas no processo de implementação, as fases da definição de requisitos e da reengenharia dos processos de negócio e imputou-se a maior parte da responsabilidade sobre o sucesso deste projeto a fatores humanos, como a motivação e capacitação da equipa de projeto e o empenhamento da gestão do projeto, implicando o apoio permanente da gestão de topo. A principal contribuição deste estudo é evidenciar que existem fatores que devem ser tomados em consideração, pelas organizações, no processo de implementação de sistemas ERP e formular algumas recomendações e sugestões com vista à obtenção de bons resultados, que se repercutem necessariamente nos benefícios esperados e no retorno do investimento.

In a world that is becoming more and more competitive, it is essential that an investment project is well succeeded. This is the case of the implementation of an ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning System, so it is important to identify the factors that influence this system, in order to, acting on them, it becomes possible to minimize or to leverage these factors. Considering the theoretical foundation to idealize the ERP System and to characterize the implementing process, identifying the problems and the obstacles, described as critical failure factors (CFF) and at the same time identifying the critical success factors (CSF), it was tried, using a qualitative research project based on a case study involving the implementation of the ERP System in a commercial airline company, to access the relevance of both factors. Most of the results obtained confirm the theoretical foundation. The detailed results kept more withdrawn from the theoretical foundation. Consequently, it was identified as critical in the implementation process of the project, the stage of the definition of the requisites and the business processes redesign. The success of this project was most due to human factors such as the motivation of the project group and the commitment of the project management team, implying the permanent support of the top management. The main contribution of this study is to show that there are factors that must be taken into account by the companies, in the implementation process of the ERP System, and to make recommendations in order to generate additional benefits and to improve the return on the investment.
