Este trabalho de investigação dá conta dos mecanismos que estruturam a produção de street art em Lisboa, enquanto forma de construção de espaço público neste contexto metropolitano específico. Especificamente, o objectivo é compreender como um espaço público urbano pode ser construído através das formas com as quais se relaciona com a cidade e a arte que nela está presente – em particular, a street art, manifestação artística e expressiva de natureza efémera. Sendo neste momento a street art objecto de diversas intervenções em Lisboa, por parte não só da iniciativa individual de artistas, como da programação de associações, projectos e da própria instituição municipal, a hipótese subjacente a esta investigação é a de que a análise destes contextos de produção de street art neste âmbito metropolitano permite revelar não só diferentes formas de conceber e de construir o espaço público urbano, bem como tensões e conflitos sobre este. Assim, esta tese pretende focar-se nos processos de produção de street art em Lisboa, com base num trabalho de campo que, para além de uma extensa recolha de imagens e de documentação, inclui ainda um conjunto de extensas entrevistas não só aos artistas, para os quais a rua é o principal âmbito das suas intervenções artísticas, como a outros actores ligados à programação de iniciativas de street art. De igual modo, pretende-se construir uma reflexão sobre os mecanismos como a street art, enquanto oportunidade fomentada por estes novos contextos de produção e âmbito de criatividade específico, se interliga com a construção de uma carreira artística, com o mundo da arte contemporânea e respectivos mercados.

This research reveals the mechanisms under which street art is produced in Lisbon, as a form of construction of public space in this specific metropolitan context. Specifically, the objective is to understand how a public space can be constructed through the ways in which it relates to the city and the art it features publicly – particularly, street art, artistic and expressive manifestation of ephemeral nature. Being street art, at the present moment, the object of several distinct interventions in Lisbon, through not only the individual initiative of artists, but also through the programming efforts of associations, projects and the municipality, the hypothesis underlying this research is that the analysis of these contexts of production of street art in this metropolitan ambit allows to reveal not only different forms of conceiving and constructing the public urban space, but also tensions and conflicts about it. Therefore, this dissertation aims to focus on the processes of production of street art in Lisbon, based on a field work that, besides an extensive image and documentation collection, includes also a set of long interviews not only to the artists, to which the street is the main context of their artistic interventions, but to other actors connected to the programming of street art initiatives. Likewise, it will be possible to construct a reflexion about the mechanisms through which street art, as an opportunity these new contexts of production allow, and as specific ambit of creativity, connects with the construction of an artistic career, with the world of contemporary art and its markets.
