Os portadores de VIH/SIDA sofrem diversas alterações no seu estilo de vida, a forma como o suporte social lhes é fornecido influencia a sua qualidade de vida podendo vir a comprometer ou a facilitar a aceitação da doença. Na presente dissertação, pretendemos aprofundar os apoios sociais formais e informais que são garantidos aos sujeitos portadores da infeção e a eficácia dos mesmos enquanto promotores da qualidade de vida e inserção social, tendo em conta a perceção dos próprios e dos assistentes sociais. A pesquisa foi orientada pelo método indutivo de natureza qualitativa e integrou procedimentos metodológicos, teóricos e empíricos, para além do estudo e análise de diversos autores, aplicamos a entrevista semiestruturada e aplicámos a análise de conteúdo com base em categorias baseadas no quadro teórico com o objetivo de sistematizar o conhecimento adquirido no campo empírico em concordância com os objetivos propostos. Concluímos que as instituições tentam colmatar as necessidades dos utentes e as que vão surgindo com os recursos que têm para o fazer, não sendo possível responder a todas. A nível do sistema de proteção social defendemos que ainda existe muito trabalho pela frente na área do VIH, como apoios económicos mais elevados tal como uma maior diversidade de respostas sociais. Os dados desta investigação, sustentam a ideia de que ainda existe muito trabalho pela frente no que concerne à infeção do VIH/SIDA, tanto uma aceitação pessoal por parte dos utentes infetados, como uma maior formação nos profissionais que interagem com estes mesmos utentes e com os que estão fora da área.

The HIV/AIDS bearers suffers many lifestyle changes and the way that social support is provided influences they're life quality in wich may compromise or easy the desease acceptance. In the present dissertation, we itend to deepen the formal and informal social supports that are granted to the subjects bearers of the infection and it's efficiency as promoters of life quality and social insertion, having in consideration the perception of their own and the social workers. The research was guided by the inductive method of qualitative nature and as integrated methodologic, theoritical and empirical proceedures, beyond the many authors study and analysis, we've apllied the content analysis having as base the theoretical framework based categories with the objective of systematize the aquired knowledge at the empirical field in agreement to the proposed objectives. We've concluded that the institutions have been trying to fill the users needs and those that have been emerging with the resources they have to do, not being possible to answer all. At social protection system level we defend that there's still a lot of work ahead in HIV area, such as higher economical support and a higher diversity of social answers. This investigation data, sustain the idea that there's still a lot of work ahead on what concerns HIV/AIDS infection, such like the infected users personal acceptance, like a higher profissional formation of those whom interact with those same users and those outside the area.
