O impacto da Perturbação do Espectro do Autismo (PEA) na família e a intervenção do Serviço Social constitui-se como o tema de estudo da investigação. A partir do conceito de família, segundo a perspetiva sistémica, o presente estudo privilegiou a análise do impacto da PEA na família, procurando perceber as reações ao diagnóstico e a dinâmica interna do sistema familiar, como também identificar as principais fontes de stress, necessidades, aspetos positivos e expetativas e preocupações face ao futuro da criança com PEA. Além disso, analisa-se a prática do assistente social com as crianças com PEA e suas famílias. Optou-se pela utilização da metodologia qualitativa e do método fenomenológico através de uma abordagem indutiva, tendo-se realizado entrevistas semiestruturadas aos pais das crianças com PEA inscritas na APPDA – São Miguel e Santa Maria e aos assistentes sociais que trabalham em APPDA´s associadas à Federação Portuguesa de Autismo. Os dados foram tratados com o recurso à análise de conteúdo.

The theme of this research is the impact of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in family and the intervention of social work. Starting from the concept of family according to the systemic perspective, the present paper, focused on the analysis of the impact of ASD in family, intents to understand the reactions to the diagnostic of ASD and the intern dynamics of the family system as well as identifying the main sources of stress, needs, positive aspects, expectations and worries towards the future of the children with ASD. In addition, studies the practice of the social worker with children with ASD and their families. We opted to use the qualitative methodology and the phenomenological method through an inductive approach, semi-structured interviews were carried out with the parents of children with ASD, placed on APPDA-São Miguel and Santa Maria and with social workers who work in three APPDA of Portugal.
