Este projeto segue a premissa de que o jovem integra uma fase da vida (a juventude) que é dedicada à descoberta e à aprendizagem concreta e abstrata - sensorial e educacional. Respeita e compreende também que cada jovem é um ser individual que se desenvolve no coletivo e que o espaço social que o envolve terá influências no seu desenvolvimento futuro. Na tentativa de compreender quem é este jovem que vive numa zona extremamente ruralizada e periférica como o concelho de Mértola (perfil sociodemográfico), os principais objetivos que o projeto cumpre são a procura de respostas relacionadas com o espaço social de cada um destes jovens – tendo principal enfoque para os jovens de Mértola e da Mina de S. Domingos -, a relação que estes jovens mantém com a cultura e, mais especificamente, com a cultura e programação cultural do concelho e, por fim, de que forma é que os jovens se relacionam entre si (perfil sociocultural). São levantadas questões relacionadas com a acessibilidade que estes jovens têm às atividades culturais que decorrem no concelho e qual o papel da cultura na sensibilização, na compreensão e no respeito entre estes jovens. Da mesma forma são discutidos fatores de distinção destes mesmos jovens, como a classe social (perfil socioprofissional).

This project follows the premise that the young integrate a life phase (the youth) which is dedicated to discovery and concrete and abstract learning - sensorial and educational. It respects and understands that each youngster is an individual which goes through a developing process in a collective environment and that the social space that involves him will influence his future actions. Aiming to understand who this youngster is, living in an extreme ruralized and peripheric area like the county of Mértola (sociodemographic profile), the main goals of this research are: discovering what kind of social space this youngsters – specially from Mértola and Mina de S. Domingos – live, the relation they have with culture and, more specifically with the cultural program of their county. In the end, the main aspect this research wants to answer is how these youngsters relate within themselves and if the cultural activities have any influence on that (sociocultural profile). Issues related to the accessibility that these youngsters have to these activities are also discussed and, furthermore what role does culture play in sensitizing people and improving the respect and understanding between these youngsters. In the same way, I discuss distinctions between them, including their social status (socioprofessional profile).
