O presente trabalho surge de uma inquietação pessoal. Durante o processo de procura do tema, deparei-me com uma parte do livro Imaginar a Evidência (Siza, 2013), onde o arquiteto Siza Vieira aborda a influência da memória no seu trabalho. Apercebi-me que a resposta para a minha inquietação se encontrava nas influências das memórias no meu processo arquitetónico. O trabalho tem como objetivo desenvolver uma reflexão sobre a memória como matéria arquitetónica. A memória é abordada na perspetiva do arquiteto e o modo como influencia a sua maneira de pensar e fazer arquitetura. O desenvolvimento do trabalho fundamentou-se numa investigação bibliográfica e num conjunto de entrevistas realizadas aos arquitetos Manuel Mateus, Pedro Botelho e Siza Vieira. Do conjunto de entrevistas identificaram-se três tipos de memórias: Memórias de infância, Memórias de viagens e Memórias arquitetónicas. Sendo a memória um tema vasto e podendo este recair no campo da psicologia, área que o trabalho não aborda, o trabalho centrase apenas nos tipos de memórias referidos pelos autores entrevistados. Não se pretende com este trabalho o estudo exaustivo das obras arquitetónicas e das suas referências, pretende-se abordar a importância da memória no processo arquitetónico.

The present work emerges from a personal restlessness. During the search process for the theme, I came across a part of the book Imaginar a Evidência (Siza, 2013), where the architect Siza Vieira approaches the memory influence in his work. I realized that the answer to my restlessness laid in the memories influences in my architectural process. The aim of this work is to develop a reflection on memory as an architectural subject. Memory is approached from the perspective of the architect and the way it influences the way of thinking and doing architecture. The development of the work was based on a bibliographical research and a set of interviews with the architects Manuel Mateus, Pedro Botelho and Siza Vieira. From the interviews, three types of memories were identified: Childhood memories, Travel memories and Architectural memories. Since memory is a vast subject and may fall in the field of psychology, area that this work does not address, the work focuses only on the types of memories mentioned by the interviewed authors. This work does not ambition a comprehensive study of the architectural works and their references, it aims to address the importance of memory in the architectural process.
