The programme of study leading towards a master’s degree includes a mandatory final undertaking in the form of a scientific dissertation or a project of a more applied nature.

The dissertation must concern an issue or topic in the domain of knowledge of the master’s. In the dissertation, this issue should be framed within the field by a review of the relevant literature; other components should include the dissertation’s proposed objectives, a description of the work performed, a critical discussion of the results obtained and their comparison to the current state of discipline, as well as a synthesis concluding with suggestions for future research.

The project should also concern an issue or topic in the domain of knowledge of the master’s and present the outcomes, solutions and recommendations resulting from the experience acquired in its development. It should also include a theoretical grounding, an appropriate methodological justification and a critical analysis of the obtained results.

The submission of the dissertation or project must be done online in Fénix, in the Academic Work portal. The student should attend to the following guidelines:

DEADLINE EXTENSION

Students who are unable to meet this deadline can request an extension until October 7, subject to the payment of €150.00.

> Once the request for deadline extension is made, the student has 2 days to settle the fee.
> The information concerning the payment can be found in Fénix MAIS 
> Once settled, the system takes 1 hour to change the status of the process.
> Exclusively by ATM reference or, exceptionally, credit card.



Submission | Necessary Documentation

The student introduces the dissertation/project work in the Academic Work (Phoenix) portal, attending the following:

  • The title and keywords (in Portuguese and English) must be updated and introduced, respectively.
  • The language of the work must be entered and the type of final work (dissertation or project work) identified.
  • Abstracts (in English and in Portuguese) must be completed.
  • The Declaration of Honor and the request addressed to the Dean requesting the exams must be confirmed in the system.
  • The ODS (Objectives of Sustainable Development) to which the work contributes must be completed.


The following documents must be uploaded:

  • Final version, in accordance with the standards in force, in PDF.
  • CV (according to each school's graphic standards).
  • Declaration regarding the availability of the work in the Iscte Repository.
  • In case of embargo request, it must submit a request addressed to the Scientific Council, with declaration of the entity/justification of the embargo, embargo period and identification of confidential matters.
  • After the upload, press the "SUBMIT" button.
Confirmation and Authorization of Submission

CONFIRMATION OF SUBMISSION | SGE

After submitting the dissertation or project, Academic Services will initiate the verification of the following elements:

  • Academic situation of the student;
  • Information related to registration of topic and advisor;
  • Conformity of the submitted documents.

Submission will be CONFIRMED on Fénix+ if all the conditions are properly met.

 

DETECTION OF PLAGIARISM | ORKUND (FÉNIX)

 Once confirmed, the dissertation or project is submitted by the Fénix system to the plagiarism detection tool, TURNITIN.

TURNITIN returns a report with the percentage of PLAGIARISM, and makes this report available to all parties.

 

AUTHORIZATION OF SUBMISSION | ADVISOR(S)

The request for defense is authorized by the advisor(s), after the verification of the piece of work and the TURNITIN report.

Re-enrollment in the dissertation or project

According to Despacho 22062/2009, altered in article 2 of Despacho 15/2010, failure to comply with the determined deadlines implies:

  • Re-enrollment in terms of the approved academic calendar.
  • Payment of a fee of €500.00 with an enrollment fee of € 30.00, which can be paid in four installments according to the following dates and amounts (not applicable to integrated master’s):

RE-ENROLLMENT

The student who intends to re-enroll in the 2nd year to complete the dissertation/project work must do it online at Fenix+, in the 'enrolment processes' tab.
