At Iscte, it's another (hi)story!
Adapted to the Bologna model, the Undergraduate course in Modern and Contemporary History in the History Department of Iscte presents an innovative curriculum within the field of history courses taught in Portugal.
In fact, History at Iscte is another story! Why?
- The degree mostly focuses on modern and contemporary history, the most recent history, which helps to understand the world and the present.
- The degree combines in fair proportion the history of Portugal, the history of Europe and the history of the World, paying broad attention to the diversity of cultures, civilizations and peoples.
- The degree includes training in the generic skills of various disciplines (quantitative methods, information and communication technologies), useful for any professional activity.
- The degree includes a strong interdisciplinary component that allows students to deepen and diversify existing scientific knowledge in other areas at Iscte.
- In addition to giving a solid background in the Historical Sciences, the degree allows students to deepen their knowledge in various areas (Cultural Studies, Social and Economic Sciences, International Relations).
- The degree allows the internationalization of knowledge - the History Department regularly organizes lectures, conferences, seminars and events with the participation of foreign professors.
- In collaboration with the Center for Research and Studies of Sociology (CIES-Iscte), the degree promotes the inclusion of students in research initiation activities.
Prevailing scientific area of the course: History
Incoming Students at Iscte may also attend a full semester of courses focused on European and World History, as well as key issues in Portuguese History. Learn more about it here.
