With a tradition of more than 45 years at Iscte, the Department of Psychology constitutes a context of excellence in training, research and intervention in Psychology.

It brings together a group of highly qualified teachers, researchers and researchers, internationally recognized and deeply committed to both teaching and research, forming part of the Research Center and Social Intervention (CIS). With a strong tradition of research in social psychology, the group has become more diverse. Currently, it is internationally competitive in social psychology, but also in other areas of fundamental research (such as cognitive sciences or emotions) and in various areas of application of psychology (such as health, the environment, the protection of children and young people, education, the community, intercultural relations or justice). 

The Department of Psychology also has an innovative profile in terms of teaching, with master's and doctoral courses that are unique in the country and which reflect, on the one hand, the strengths and interests of its members and, on the other, the importance we give to research in training competent professionals. At the moment, in addition to the Degree in Psychology which is one of the most sought after in Portugal, we offer 6 Masters and Postgraduate Degrees - Social and Organizational Psychology, Community Psychology, Protection of Children and Young People at Risk, Sciences of Emotions, Social Psychology of Health, Psychology of Intercultural Relations and Global Minds – and a program of doctoramento em Psicologia. DPSO students have, from the beginning of their training, the opportunity to participate and conduct studies in the field, but also in a laboratory context (at LAPSO - Psychology Laboratory), accessing the most recent research paradigms and techniques.

The Department also maintains strong relationships with the community, promoting quality and innovation in the design and implementation of social and community development services and programs, which contribute to promoting well-being and social inclusion and combating inequalities.
