Development of an integrated group project, which involves the design, prototyping and presentation of an innovative journalistic product using digital technologies and AI. The estimated total time for independent work on the project is approximately 40 hours, including research, experimentation with tools and iterative development.
The final project (functional prototype + demonstration) accounts for 60% of the mark. The final presentation (video pitch + live demonstration) accounts for 20%. The originality, technological innovation and ethical appropriateness of the project contribute 20% to the assessment. In addition, continuous assessment takes into account participation in classes, practical exercises and interim submissions, reflecting the development of technical, creative and analytical skills.
Students who achieve a final mark of 9.5 or above will pass, and attendance at at least 80% of classes is compulsory.

'Individual work (30%), consisting of written critical reflection on a case of journalism in emerging platforms (e.g., TikTok strategy of a newsroom). Group practical project (60%), with production and publication of cross-platform journalistic product (initial draft + final version). A avaliação é realizada em 2 momentos: 1) ao longo do período letivo e 2) avaliação final.

1) Ao longo do período letivo, serão utilizados os seguintes instrumentos de avaliação: assiduidade (e pontualidade) igual ou superior a 80%, participação oral ativa nas sessões e exercícios de grupo (avaliada em 20%); produção de conteúdos jornalísticos para integrar um projeto multimédia final.
2) Avaliação do projeto multimédia final composto pelos conteúdos produzidos no âmbito da UC ao longo do período letivo. O projeto é composto pela planificação de um dossiê multimédia e produção desse projeto, no qual deverá pôr em prática as vertentes abordadas na UC. O dossier multimédia consiste em duas partes, com a primeira a valer 30% da nota e a segunda 50% da nota final. A primeira fase consiste na planificação do projeto escolhido pelo aluno, na vertente por si escolhida, tendo em conta as especificações e exemplos dados em aula para aquilo que é um bom conteúdo, tanto do ponto de vista de estrutura como da riqueza e criatividade dos conteúdos. A segunda fase consiste na produção de uma maquete funcional, a publicar online, seguindo o plano anterior e as recomendações do docente.
O tempo total de trabalho necessário para a produção deste trabalho é contabilizada em cerca de 20 horas de pesquisa em biblioteca, e/ou trabalho de campo. A versão final do projeto representará 80% da nota. A originalidade e a inovação no trabalho contribuirá para a avaliação. Esta avaliação pressupõe a revelação das competências de escrita e orais, qualidade da pesquisa bibliográfica realizada, conhecimentos adquiridos e a capacidade de análise e síntese.
Ficam aprovados os alunos que tenham notas superiores a 9,5 valores nas duas avaliações (só são admitidas 2 faltas).

This semester-long module (6 ECTS, 60 hours in total: 30 hours of lectures/tutorials, 20 hours of practical work, 10 hours of independent study) is aligned with Iscte’s Pedagogical Model, which focuses on active, project-based learning, and is organised over 12 weeks. The methodologies employed include theoretical-practical classes (50%, 30 hours), with interactive presentation of concepts (CP1-2) followed by hands-on labs using real datasets (e.g. GA4 demo), encouraging interaction and immediate application; group projects (30%, 20 hours), through simulations of digital newsrooms (CP5) with individualised tutoring for dashboards and reports; and independent study (20%, 10 hours), comprising compulsory reading (Reuters Reports), segmentation exercises (OA2), metrics analysis sheets (OA1) and the preparation of executive reports (OA5), recorded in the Moodle portfolio.

2) Individual written test, which consists of writing a first draft of an investigative article. The total work time required for writing this paper is counted in about 20 hours of library research, and/or fieldwork. The final version of the article will account for 70% of the grade. Originality and innovation in the research work for writing the article will contribute to the evaluation with 20%.
This assessment presupposes the revelation of written and oral skills, quality of bibliographic research carried out, acquired knowledge and ability to analyze and summarize.

The assessment is carried out in 2 moments: 1) throughout the academic term and 2) final evaluation.
1) Throughout the academic period, the following assessment tools will be used: attendance (and punctuality) equal to or greater than 80%, active oral participation in group sessions and exercises (evaluated at 10%);
2) The evaluation includes an individual work, which consists of the design and development of an applied research project around the use of artificial intelligence tools in a journalistic context, accompanied by a structured written report in scientific article format. The total work time required to carry out this project is estimated at around 20 hours, including literature research, experimentation with AI tools and eventual data collection and analysis. The final version of the work will account for 70% of the grade. Originality, innovation in the use of artificial intelligence technologies and critical capacity in analyzing their impacts on journalism will contribute to the evaluation with 20%. This assessment presupposes the demonstration of academic and technical writing skills, ability to use digital tools, quality of bibliographic research carried out, mastery of the concepts covered in the curricular unit and aptitude for critical analysis and synthesis. Students who obtain grades higher than 9.5 values in the assessment components are approved, with a minimum attendance requirement corresponding to the mandatory attendance of the course unit (no more than 2 absences being admitted).

In continuous evaluation there is a practical assignment (70% of the final grade) to evaluate fact-checking articles: two pre-determined and two resulting from research and selection by each student. The presentation and analysis of the work is worth 20% and the remaining 10% is for class participation.

Alternatively, there may only be a single final assessment, corresponding to a final essay that should carry out fact-checking of 5 pre-determined cases and reflect on the results.
