Disabled library users

The Iscte Library provides users with specific needs – namely blind people, those with low vision or reduced mobility – with access to information resources in accessible formats, as well as to specialised equipment and software, through:

1. The conversion and adaptation of documents into accessible formats, including teaching and learning resources and other educational materials;
2. Printing in Braille;
3. Inclusion and promotion of documents in accessible formats in the Library catalogue and the Common Library;
4. Participation in awareness-raising initiatives for teaching staff and technical staff;
5. Production of support material for teaching staff – Guide to Good Practice in the creation of accessible content;
6. Provision of a room with support equipment – Multimedia and Support Room for people with specific needs (Opening hours during term time – Monday to Friday: 9AM–9PM and Saturdays: 10AM–6PM).

On-site equipment

Multimedia

• 1 DVD and VHS player;
• 1 multimedia desktop computer (DVD player and burner);
• 4 pairs of headphones.

Equipment for blind people

• 1 laptop with the following software: 
  General: Office 2019; SPSS; VLC; Mendeley;      Zoom; Skype and Teams;
  Specific: NVDA; Windows Magnifier; Easy     Braille.
• 1 desktop scanner;
• 1 trackball;
• 1 SmartView Synergy (screen magnifier);
• 1 Everest v.4 Braille printer (single sheet);
• 1 Swell Form raised-print printer.

Equipment available for loan (blind and def people)

• 4 laptops with the following software:
  General: Office 2021; SPSS 29.0.2.0; VLC  AMOS 29; VLC; 7-Zip; Zoom; Teams; Adobe  Reader;
  Specific: NVDA 2021.1; Easy Braille;

• 1 Braille printer; Joana Premium software;
• 1 Braille display driver;
• 4 lapel microphones (user guidelines);
• 1 Focus 40 Braille display, v.5.

Equipment must be booked via the Iscte Social Welfare Service.
