Desde o fim da Segunda Guerra Mundial que as relações internacionais se têm mostrado bastante preocupadas com os níveis de Desenvolvimento dos países. O capital gasto em projetos desta natureza tem sido imenso, mas os resultados teimam em não aparecer. As críticas vão surgindo das mais variadas áreas académicas, todas reclamando o caráter altamente preconceituoso e imperalista deste pensamento, sendo visto como uma desculpa para a intervenção e intromissão nos países economicamente mais fracos. Neste cenário, ganham importância o aparecimento de conceitos e campos de estudo alternativos, que pretendem intervir nos campos esquecidos pelo Desenvolvimento. Este trabalho pretende apresentar três conceitos que destacam precisamente as dimensões que são desvalorizadas pelos agentes de Desenvolvimento, a Felicidade, o Bem-Estar e o Buen Vivir. Está dividido em três grandes capítulos, sendo que no primeiro é elaborada uma história sucinta do Desenvolvimento. No segundo capítulo estão presentes as críticas efetuadas ao mesmo, estabelecendo já as bases para o aparecimento de novas ideias, e no terceiro capítulo serão apresentados os novos conceitos. A existência de linhas de pensamento que defendem que o Desenvolvimento se encontra obsoleto, aliada à sua crescente notoriedade, poderá representar uma eminente mudança de paradigma. Impõe-se uma reflexão sobre estes conceitos, na tentativa de perceber qual o seu papel no Desenvolvimento, nomeadamente se poderão ajudá-lo a ganhar credibilidade junto dos países em desenvolvimento ou se contribuirão para um entendimento de Pós-Desenvolvimento. O futuro do Desenvolvimento terá que passar forçamente pelo reconhecimento e aceitação da diversidade cultural, sob o risco de ser ultrapassado.

Since the end of the Second World War the international relations have shown concern with the Development levels of countries. The capital expenditure on projects of this nature has been immense, but the results insist on not appearing. The criticisms come from different academic fields, all claiming the highly prejudice and imperialistic character of this thought, being seen as an excuse for an intervention and interference in economically weaker countries. In this scenario, it becomes important the ascent of concepts and alternative fields of study, wanting to intervene in the areas overlooked by Development. This work intends to present three concepts that highlight precisely the dimensions that are underestimate by the agents of Development, Happiness, Well-being and Buen Vivir. It is divided in three main chapters, the first presenting a brief history of Development. In the second chapter, we present the criticism made towards Development, making ground for the appearance of new ideas, and in the third chapter the new concepts will be presented. The existence of lines of thought defending that Development is obsolete, linked with their growing notoriety may represent an imminent paradigm shift. It is imperative to reflect about these concepts, in an attempt to understand their role in Development, especially if they can help it to gain credibility in the developing countries or if they will contribute to a Post-Development reality. The future of Development will have to recognize and accept the cultural diversity, at the risk of being overgrow.
