Esta dissertação pretende convidar o leitor a refletir sobre as questões que afetam a Baixa Pombalina, nomeadamente aquelas levantadas pelos processos de reorganização urbana ocorridas nas últimas décadas, sendo de especial interesse a mais atual. Ela está relacionada com o crescente investimento na requalificação e reconstrução do edificado da zona, para fins de exploração turística ou de habitação de luxo. A questão principal é, então, qual a relação existente entre o turismo e os residentes permanentes da Baixa? Para responder a esta pergunta, é explorada a perspetiva dos moradores, através da análise das suas vivências quotidianas, memórias do espaço e percursos. São utilizados métodos de pesquisa variados e criativos e são aplicadas técnicas que também pertencem a outras áreas científicas, no estudo do local, bem como o uso de bibliografia que engloba autores de diferentes temáticas, conferindo à dissertação um caráter interdisciplinar.

This thesis intends to invite the reader to reflect on the issues affecting Baixa Pombalina, namely those raised by the urban reorganization processes that occurred in the last decades, being of special interest the most current. It’s related to the increasing investment in the requalification and reconstruction of the built heritage, for purposes of tourist exploration or luxury housing. The main question will always be, what is the relationship between tourism and the permanent residents of Baixa? To answer this question, the thesis analyzes the perspective of the residents, through the exploration of their daily experiences and memories of the space and routes. Various and creative research methods are applied, techniques that also belong to other scientific areas in the study of the space as well as the use of bibliography that includes authors of different themes, giving the dissertation an interdisciplinar technical nature.
