Assessment and ECTS Grading System

Under the Portuguese system, grades are given on a scale from 0 to 20, with 10 being the minimum passing grade.

There are a variety of assessment methods at Iscte. Assessments factors may include formal examinations at the end of each semester, participation, class attendance, essays, group projects and case-study presentations.

International students may do their reports and written examinations in English or another foreign language, even in some Portuguese-taught courses, but teachers must agree to this on a case-by-case basis before arrival or at the beginning of classes.

An official Transcripts of Records will issued for each student according to the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) grading scale. The transcript will be sent directly to the International Relations Office at the incoming student's home institution at latest 1 month after the end of his/her exams at Iscte.
