A perspetiva das forças rompe com o Serviço Social convencional, promovendo a transição do modelo médico para a perspetiva das forças que privilegia as potencialidades, talentos e interesses pessoais, ao invés das fraquezas (Oliveira, 2016). Esta perspetiva incentiva uma relação igualitária entre as partes, assente na confiança e empatia (Blundo, 2000). A intervenção do Serviço Social com famílias de crianças e jovens em perigo com base na perspetiva das forças centra-se na identificação das potencialidades, descoberta de talentos e desenvolvimento de competências parentais e dinâmicas familiares (Berg & Kelly, 2001, como citado em Roose et al., 2014). Por meio de uma metodologia qualitativa, implementaram-se entrevistas semiestruturadas a 12 assistentes sociais que atuam com famílias de crianças e jovens em perigo, a fim de explorar as suas perceções acerca do recurso à perspetiva das forças e impacto que tal tem nos sujeitos de intervenção. Esta investigação aprofundou o conhecimento sobre a intervenção com estas famílias segundo o quadro teórico da perspetiva das forças. Mais especificamente, clarificou em que fase da intervenção se identifica e desenvolvem as forças das famílias; permitiu perceber se a perspetiva das forças é aplicável a todas as famílias; qual a perceção dos assistentes sociais relativamente às forças das pessoas e se consideram que as famílias as reconhecem ou não; averiguar a opinião dos profissionais sobre a ligação entre a perspetiva das forças e o potencial de mudança das famílias; e por fim, permitiu elencar as oportunidades e desafios sentidos pelo assistente social.

The strengths perspective breaks with conventional social work, promoting a transition from the medical model to the strengths perspective, which focuses on personal potential, talents and interests, rather than weaknesses (Oliveira, 2016). This perspective encourages an equal relationship between the parties, based on trust and empathy (Blundo, 2000). Social work intervention with families of children and young people in danger based on the strengths perspective focuses on identifying potential, discovering talents and developing parenting skills and family dynamics (Berg & Kelly, 2001, as cited in Roose et al., 2014). Using a qualitative methodology, semi-structured interviews were carried out with 12 social workers who work with families of children and young people in danger, in order to explore their perceptions of the use of the strengths perspective and the impact this has on the intervention subjects. This research has deepened our understanding of intervention with these families according to the theoretical framework of the strengths perspective. More specifically, it has clarified at what stage of the intervention the families' strengths are identified and developed; it has made it possible to understand whether the strengths perspective is applicable to all families; what the social workers' perception of people's strengths is and whether they think the families recognize them or not; it has ascertained the professionals' opinion on the link between the strengths perspective and the families' potential for change; and finally, it has made it possible to list the opportunities and challenges felt by the social worker.
